Budtender Interview #15 - Ashley
Budtender | California
Which state do you work in?: California
Care to share the Name of Dispensary: Tri County Medical
How long have you been a Budtender? Half a year but in the medicinal marijuana industry for about years now
Retail, Medical or Both? I've been in the medical marijuana industry for about 3 years now
How did you get into the Industry? A couple of my close friends were a supervisor & manager at a collective that was up the street from my house. One day my friend called & told me they were in need of a receptionist so I went in for my interview (in the lobby since I had no valid medical marijuana recommendation at the time). I got the job then from there was sent to the doctor & received my recommendation & what would be my favorite job in the world that day.
What is your favorite aspect the being a Budtender? I love interacting as well as helping patients the most. I like when I remember patients names as well as their medical preferences. Learning a lot about medical marijuana such as strains & different ways of medicating is something I have come to love to learn.
The funniest moment you have had at work with a customer or job related? The funniest moment I have ever had at work would have to be when a patient walked into our collective & first off he had left our security guard “hanging” on a handshake. I was already laughing at the facial expression of our guard but it soon turned to laughter. Our guard had asked him why he left him hanging & the patient quickly responded “well i’m sorry man I didn’t know I was able to shake your hand, I mean I don’t want to hold out my hand then you reach for your gun” at this point I was dying of laughter from the expressions & I was high :D haha
Most random question somebody has asked you about cannabis? “Can it be injected through a needle into your bloodstream” This patient did in fact mean as a shot or some other type of illicit drug which was not only random but rather freaky to me & I will never forget this question.
Favorite Strain and why?: My favorite strain would have to be Berry White. Berry White is a hybrid cross of Blueberry OG & White Widow. I love the look of the flower when it is full of THC crystals & the blueberry smell is delicious. The White Widow gives it a bit of a punch but it is a hybrid strain that I have never been let down with.
Do you like edibles? If so, what is your favorite and why? Yes I do like edibles. My favorite edible would be the Vanilla Chai Kiva chocolate bar. It is 180MG (SCC lab tested) so it is true to its potency & i love the taste. You can hardly taste any marijuana in this chocolate bar & it tastes amazingly yummy with good potency.
Advice for others wanting to work in the cannabis Industry? Find a collective or dispensary you trust to work for as well as a environment you like to be in. It's not fun working for sketchy bosses or places that aren’t abiding by laws & regulations especially being in the medicinal marijuana industry.
Do you have an Instagram? If so, what is your user name? Yes my instagram username is tinylilashley
Is there anything you would like to see improve in the industry? I can not wait for California to legalize marijuana for recreational purposes as well. Also I would like to see what else CBD is able to offer when it comes to healing & medicating since it has so many great benefits.
What are the best perks about your job? Helping & developing relationships with patients. Also being introduced to different forms of medication as well as being educated on everything first hand is a great benefit. I also love samples & budtender appreciation days (: haha
Do you use cannabis medically? Yes I do. Other than smoking cannabis I vape, use concentrates, edibles & topicals as well.
What is your favorite movie? The Wizard of Oz & Alice in Wonderland
What is your favorite hobby? (Provide links if you have art work) Educating myself more on medical cannabis as well as other uses from the plant itself (hemp). I used to play softball but recently work a lot so I love using Tumblr as an escape. But I mainly like hiking, going to the beach, & reading for “normal hobbies” :D haha
What is the #1 thing you are most grateful for? The obstacles I have overcome, because without all the stuff I have been through in the past recent years I would not be as strong & ambitious as I am today.
