Budtender | Oregon

Name: Tyron

What state do you work in?: Oregon

Care to share which dispensary you work at?: Geen Valley Wellness in Talent, OR

Do you work Retail, Medical or both?: Medical for now! After October 1st it'll be both.

How long have you been in the cannabis industry?: I have been Budtending for almost 5 months, but have been around the industry for quite some time.

How did you go about getting into the cannabis industry?: Well its funny you ask!:) I happened to walk into a dispensary for the first time and ended up getting an offer to apply! I interviewed twice for the position and with a little luck I ended up with the job!

How did you react to your first day working? Was it mind blowing?: I was in total awe with how fast pace but relaxed the atmosphere was. Every new patient that I met was eager to get to know and quiz me on how much i knew about cannabis! My coworkers were nothing short of informative and helpful. Overall it is in the top 5 most memorable days of my life! So yes it was mind blowing!

What is the most random question somebody has asked you about cannabis?: If I could bring a considerable amount of cannabis to her house for a back yard jazz concert.

Ever have any awkward moments with a patient or customer?: We carry a massage oil that is called Tropical Dreams. We had just finished up on an Instagram post that was featuring this topical and had shown it to the next patient that walked in. He liked the pic and i told him the name the he proceeded to say "I bet they all call you Tropical Dream!" It wasn't really as awkward for him as it was for me but really funny none the less!!

Is there a patient or customer that you have seen improve their health due to cannabis use? If so, explain.: So there is a patient that frequents us suffering from cancer going through chemo- therapy had never considered RSO. I insisted that she try a heavy CBD strain RSO to help with pain with enough THC to encourage appetite. Since she has been looking great and feeling even better. Just seeing her walk through the door and tell me how much I changed her life was amazing!

Cannabis Edibles seem to be a touchy subject in the news. Have you ever had a bad experience with them? Also, how many MG of THC do you recommend for a first time consumer?: I haven't had a bad experience with edibles at all in fact I really enjoy Lean Back Sizurp from Dirty Arm Farms, and Epic Edibles! Anything else i have tried leaves me with very little to no effect. I would say that one medical dosage is 30mg. I tend to tell newer patients to start at half.

Do you have an all time favorite strain? If so, why is it your favorite?: That would have to be between Sour Diesel and Wedding Cake. Sour Diesel from taste to potencyit's a classic strain that i never get tired of! Wedding Cake is the most delicious tasting, incredible, highly euphoric bud that i have smoked in quite a while and coming from the cookies fam it's an all around winner! Definitely my "go to" when i can get my hands on it!!

Do you have any advice for people looking to get into the industry?: If the cannabis industry is something that you really enjoy, then learn every aspect of it and embrace the culture, good and bad. The more knowledge you have that I feel the easier it is to gain a solidified spot in a always evolving world of weed!

The cannabis industry is new and obviously has a lot of improving to do. Where would you like to see improvement in the industry?: I would like to see improvement on the aspect of when recreational comes into play for patients to still feel comfortable with explaining their ailments freely. As a patient myself I feel there are a lot of issues that someone may not want a complete stranger to overhear. Apart from that I'm want to see a lot more consistency with vendors from product to appeal.

How do you explain the difference in the effects of Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid strains?: A Sativa strain's effect is more of a full cerebral head high full of energy and focus and uplifted mood,  more of a distraction from pain. An Indica stain's effect is more or less the drug variety of cannabis. Most Indica strains provide a very heavy body high soothing, relaxing, and great pain reliever. A Hybrid is the best of both world to say the least. Common strains like Blue Dream, and OG Kush are both great for daytime function while providing the relief that you need without distraction.

What’s the largest amount of flower you have smoked in one setting?: Does all day count as one setting!? Honestly I would have to say in one setting I consumed two doses of Lean Back Sizurp at 80mg THC per dose. Followed by four 1g joints (all different strains) and a 1/2g worth of Fat Pack concentrate.

Where do you see the cannabis industry in 5 years? With the industry rapidly growing I see a lot of small names that are starting off now that will be major names in 5 years! I also hope to see more states deciding to take the leap of faith and follow suit like the four states that legalized.

Do you use cannabis more so Medically or Recreationally? Explain please.: More so now medically. Yet I did have a considerable amount of time in the Rec community!

Have any hobbies? Any examples you would like to share?: Apart from loving my job, I make music, I love to cook, and going outdoors for relaxation.

Where can people connect with you? Instagram? Massroots?: Facebook: Tyron Player Instagram: @josiathaking

What are you most grateful for today?: My family and friends. My job and every breath i'm still taking!!

Keep up with Tyron
